Fitzroy Island is nestled amongst the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. Glass Bottom Boat Tours depart twice a day around the sheltered waters of Fitzroy Island, giving you the chance to see the vibrant marine life of the reef including coral, tropical fish and wild sea turtles. This is perfect for those who want to see the splendour of the reef without getting wet or learning to snorkel.

Snorkelling, Diving and Kayaking

Fitzroy Island’s Dive and Adventure Centre offers a variety of diving opportunities for all levels of experience, so even if you’re a beginner this is a great chance to see the reef up close and experience all it has to offer. You can hire equipment and then explore the breathtaking Reef straight off the Island’s beaches. You don’t have to venture too far before you’ll be up close with some of the world’s most stunning marine life. Diving equipment and lessons are available too, as are sea kayaks: hire a kayak and have the unique opportunity to explore reefs and beaches that are not accessible by boat or foot. Single or double kayaks are available, and guided tours are run in the mornings.

Walking Tracks to Explore Across the Island

A number of scenic National Park bush walking tracks allow you to explore the flora and fauna of the Island’s various landscapes. You’ll find tracks suitable for all fitness levels including easy walks suitable for youngsters. There are 5-minute walking tracks for those who just want a sense of the environment, as well as 3-hour hikes for those wanting to really explore. Some of the popular walks include:

  • An exploration of the western edge of the jetty, taking in the giant granite boulders and lush tropical rainforest.
  • The Secret Garden Track – 1km return, 45 mins duration
  • The Nudey Beach Track – 1km return, 45 mins duration

The Nudey Beach Track is a nice leisurely walk that takes you through tropical rain forest to the beach. Nudey Beach is perfect for swimming, snorkelling or just relaxing on the sand.

Take a Visit to the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre

This volunteer-operated centre is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles. The Centre runs tours from 1pm daily, allowing you to learn not only about the history of the organisation, but about the recovery that injured or sick turtles undergo before they are released back into the ocean.

The Giant Ocean Trampoline – guaranteed fun!

The Giant ocean trampoline is just 25 meters off shore and offers endless fun in the sun for kids and adults alike. It’s a great way to cool off after a walk!

Foxy’s Bar: A Beachside Paradise

Situated right on the beachfront, Foxy’s is spot-on for excellent casual café-style food (with a wide range of food and drink options including kids’ meals and coffee). It’s also a relaxing place to enjoy a beer or cocktail, so if you feel like you might need to unwind after a day full of fun, Foxy’s Bar is the place to go.
