Who is the ‘Travel Tramp’?
Hello fellow travellers!
I’m Richard, a.k.a the ‘Travel Tramp’. I’m an award-winning blogger, a professional travel journalist and a published author from the United Kingdom.
I’ve spent over a decade travelling to emerging destinations, getting off the beaten track and finding stories that other journalists haven’t told.
After founding Travel Tramp in 2015 as a place to showcase my favourite places around the world, I’ve since gone on to write for every major travel publication out there. You’ll find my bylines in the likes of National Geographic, The Times, BBC Travel, CNN Travel, The Telegraph, iNews, Atlas Obscura, Lonely Planet and so many more!
In 2026, Penguin Random House published my debut book, Along the Borders, where I explore the history of Britain’s borders and boundaries.
If you haven’t already guessed, I’m a massive border nerd, and this website is where I love to geek out about travel, history and geopolitics!
Oh, and I’ve also started dabbling in YouTube (but my writing is much better).
